November 10, 2009 3:17 pm Film AnalysisThe medium of this text is to inform and persuade the pubic, it has been chose in this print as the audience can take as long as they like to absorb the information on the page as it is a still image rather than an a moving image and an opening scene, this allows them to have time to study the piece and this allows them to look closely. The purpose of this text is to inform the audience of the many enigmas running through the film, this attracts attention to the film, the Statue of Liberty represents liberty and the head of the Statue of Liberty has been blown off and this symbolises that war may have broken out and that people are going against liberty, also to tell the audience what’s going to happen in the film. This poster is creating many enigmas such as who has started the fight. The genre of the text is a type of sci-fi/action thriller. We know that there is some form of action as there is destruction everywhere and it is just happening surrounding the Statue of Liberty, the colour is blue which connotes feelings of hatred, coldness and sadness. It also has a sci-fi genre to it as the tagline is “something has found us” which suggests that the people/things that have found them are unknown to them and the audience. The writing looks as if it has been typed out on a computer which also gives a futuristic effect and themes. The writing is sans serif and also it looks quite like the matrix, which is also another sci-fi film, when the people look at this they may recognise this and it may make them want to see it because it has a sci-fi genre. The writing is like this so it gives a sci-fi tone to it as it looks as if its been typed out on a computer and this also adds to the sci-fi genre, this also makes it seem quite far into the future. The technical codes are, the lighting – is blue to give a feeling of coldness, also the lighting is quite dim which also creates the feeling of coldness and the extreme long shot of the statue and the burnt out buildings in the background creates an enigma and this shows that there is much disruption in the city. The blown up statue of liberty is a cultural code as it represents that New York is becoming a war zone and it shows that the bombers and taking out liberty. The statue was given to New York as a sign of peace, when you see that her head has been blown off this gives the feeling that the peace has broken out. By having the statue in the foreground of the image in shadow focus, as the background isn’t as clear this is then creating the enigma that the statue is why the disruption is happening all around, this is then again creating the enigma of who started all of this, which persuades the audience to go and see this and find out who has done it.
