Media Studies 3 - Chloe

 1.      This medium has been chosen because as it is a still image the audience and or the public can study this closely, this is to inform and persuade the audience to go and see this, as it is a still image the audience can absorb all of the information on the page rather than it being an opening scene or a trailer.

2.      The purpose of the text is to inform the reader of what is going to happen in the film, or of the enigmas running through the film, but with this poster you aren’t given many clues about what is going to happen so this does persuade the audience into going to see it as they may want to find out what the story is about and what is going happen.  For example the eye could mean that somebody is watching someone else but there is other people getting in the way and stopping them.  Another thing is the name “Jessica Alba” this may persuade the audience into seeing the film because they may know her as an actress and want to go and see the film as she in it, this may make a profit as more people will go and see it.

3.      The genre of this text is a horror.  I know this because the colours are very dark, shadowed and this gives you the feeling of the unknown, it is also a typical horror film as in horror films you see that the scenes are set in very dark light and this creates the feeling of death and being scared which links to the eye as it looks startled and scared. The eye looks as if it is sitting in a hollow as the lighting, this gives you a feeling that someone is hiding, and the hand looks as if someone is after her.

4.      The fonts used here are sans serif, this gives the poster a modern feel, so you have a feeling that is around this time.  There is bold lettering on the work the EYE this shows what the movie is about and what the main idea is, also obviously the picture does to.  Jessica Alba’s name is used at the top of the words the eye, but it is also in colour in red lettering, the only colour on the text, which has connotations of blood and anger, so you can tell that she is the one who is going to be the most important person.

5. The technical codes of the poster are that the lighting is very dark around the eye and it gets lighter when you reach the names of the poster, this shows that the person is very dark on the inside whilst on the outside she/he is scared.  The camera shot is directly on one eye so it automatically makes you focus on this.  The focus is very clear on the eye as it the main thing on the page, as there is a bright white light on the eye this shows that something is trying to get through and is stuck behind the eye.   The colour seems to give the picture a gloomy feel to it as it is so dark and this looks as if something is trying to get out of its problem and also out of the darkness, which also shows it feels like a horror.
