Thoughts!

Yesterday we did those papers i think this was good practice and doing it again would help. I also think we should do more poster analysis for practice as this would help more. I know we will be doing more of man on the wire but i would like to do an essay on it after to have more practice and look into it in more depth. As we did a essay yesterday i was thinking how it would be better to know more about the institution on The Usual Suspects.

Changes.

Our group has changed our idea slightly to make it more understandable and approprite for people that didn’t like it in our group. So now me as tom’s wife gets killed because the crime we done together. We filmed last week, we decided to film me and tom walking down the hill to make it more obvious that we are together. I thought this was a good idea as it made our opening more clearer and understandable. I don’t quite get what the age of our opening is supposed to be as we have changed our idea. I think that our group needs to discuss this sometime to make it more clearer because i don’t think any of us know what age it’s supposed to be aimed at.

Filming!

Our group filmed the scene with tom’s dead wife. We had fake blood for my nose and mouth, we also had tomato sauce all over the white shirt i had on and around my wrists, on my chest. We filmed in the workshop with all the machienes on to give it more effect and tools next to me lying on one of the tables, also with my hand in the vice and a tool next to my had to look like it was in my hand.We only had 15 mins to film in the workshop because there was a class in so we tried to get as much as we could. We then went back at lunch beacuse we needed more done and mr stuart kindly asked us if we wanted to.:) Ellis done the bruises on my eyes and neck to look as if i had been badly hurt which was really well done and effective. Everyone that saw me was like are you ok, what happened, as if it was real which shows how well Ellis done and how skilled she was.:) Tom done a good job with his part when he was upset and angry, he expressed these feelings really well. Also the way he picked up my hand was really well done with a gental touch wich added more effect. The shot that was over me was well done i really liked this one because it showed more of the dead body and was effective, this shot was taken by mr wallis because we went back to get more done incase we need it when i still had the make-up on.It was hard to hear everyone over the noise at the start and i didn’t know when to not breathe which wasn’t as good as when the machienes were off.

Butterfly on a wheel.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — gillian @ 6:40 pm

This film is about a guy who kidnaps two parents while their child is being looked after by a babysitter they just got which turns out to be in with the guy who kidnapped them. Then they are being told by this guy to do things and if they don’t their child gets killed. The effect of the background moving round and the people in focus was really effective as it gave the audience a feeling that the characters were really under pressure and didn’t know what do do. The victim is facing the psycho, the victims face is sort of  out of focus to make him look weaker and the psycho totaly in focus to make him look stronger and in control. The guy that is the victim sits down in the rain this shows that he has gave up, depressed and feels like he has lost everything, this has also been shown in a few films. There is a use of ancorage with the title and the line in a book highlighted in the film.

changes!

We have decided that our group is going to be doing filming in the bowmore distilary room as it is long and slightly dark which is a good effect for our film. If we can’t film in this room i suggested a garage like in The Usual Suspects when they are discussing stuf!:) We also changed how the intro, the cast is going to be on a gramafone with the record going round and then slowley fade into the round table.

The untouchables

Filed under: Uncategorized — gillian @ 11:22 pm

In the opening of this film with the cast the names go past shadows as if they are hiding something. this could also mean the main characters go through rough stages in the film. This could also mean that the characters have two sides to them one dark and one bright. The shadows also look like bars which tells the audience that this could be a crime film. This also shows how it is a heist film. Also the use of shadows shows it is film noir and this links to how it is going to be a heist film. The title “The untouchables” slowly moves away from the shot and this anchors how the main characters are untouchable which tells the audience that they are strong smart and will never get beaten. Also the title slowly vanishes which suggests that the main character will never be seen after also that the main character may die and become a legend of gangs. The music creats enigma while the cast is being showen. The music also creats anger by the tone of it.

The first time the audience meets Al Capone we are looking down on him although he is getting his shoes shinned, nails done, shaved and interviewd portrays the fact that he is powerfull and is the leader of a gang or the police department. When the year 1930 shows this also suggests it is film noir. His face is covered at first this creats enigma and gets the audience thinking who is the powerfull guy in the chair. He also looks like a typical gangster with his smart looking trousers, white shirt, black shiney shoes and slicked back hair. His accent fits in with the tyipical gangster aswell. Also because Al Capone was in home alone and was the bad guy this creats the tipical gangster look and feeling aswell. This is why when the man that is shaving him cuts him atomatically the audience gets a feeling that he is going to crack. When he says he grew up in a tough naibougher hood this shows is is gangter type aswell. When he says “sometimes a reputation follows you” this creats enigma wondering what his reputation was like and if it has follwed.

The way everyone is dressed creats the film noir type. The guy in the white suit stands out from everyone else dressed in dull colurs showing that he is important in the film. When the guy walks out withought his breif case the bomb going off is unexpected.
